Description

Zoclar® manufacturer is Cipla.

Zoclar® active ingredient Clarithromycin is a broad-spectrum, semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic belonging to the azalide group.

Indications:

- acute maxillary sinusitis;

- acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis;

- community-acquired pneumonia;

- uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections;

- disseminated mycobacterial infections;

- Helicobacter pylori infections.

Zoclar® has a similar antibacterial spectrum activity to Penicillin and so is also effective as an alternative medication in people who are allergic to Penicillin antibiotics. Zoclar® will not work for colds, flu or for yest infections.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Clarithromycin is bactericidal antibiotic, which action results in inhibition of protein synthesis in bacteria, by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. Finally, bacteria die or are destroyed by the immune system. This clears up the infection. Clarithromycin is effective against Gram-positive microorganisms (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Listeria monocytogenes), Gram-negative microorganisms (Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus parainfluenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Helicobacter pylori, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Campylobacter jejuni), other microorganisms (Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Ureaplasma urealyticum, Chlamydophila pneumoniae (TWAR), Chlamydia trachomatis), mycobacteria (Mycobacterium avium, Mycobacterium intracellulare, Mycobacterium chelonae, Mycobacterium leprae).

Dosage

Zoclar® tablets are taken orally (by mouth), with or without food.

The recommended dose is 250 mg twice daily for 6 to 14 days.
