Description

Bimatoprost is a medicated eye drop that is indicated in the treatment of glaucoma or other causes of raised intraocular pressure.

Bimatoprost forms part of a category of drugs known as prostamides. Prostamides have many uses in the human body, one of which is to dilate the canals that drain fluids from the eyes. Bimatoprost thus accomplishes its objective of reducing intraocular pressure by causing the drainage of excess fluid from the eyes.

Bimatoprost eye drops lower the pressure in the eye by helping the flow of fluid out of the eye chamber.

Bimatoprost eye drops can be used alone or together with other eyedrops/medicines to lower raised pressure within your eyes.

Bimatoprost is also known as Lumigan.

Dosage

Bimatoprost is available in:

  • 0.03%, 3 ml Min Dosage

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Use Bimatoprost exactly as directed.

Bimatoprost eye drops are usually used once a day.

Wash the hands before using the eye drops. Tilt the head back slightly and pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Place one drop in this pocket whilst looking away from the dropper. Close the eyes and prevent the solution from falling off through the tear ducts for about one minute.

Enough medication should be applied to completely cover the affected area with a thin film. Bimatoprost should be gently and thoroughly massaged into the affected area.

Do not use more than the amount prescribed for you. Do not use on large areas of the body for a long time (such as every day for many weeks or months) - unless your doctor tells you to.

Missing a dose

Do not take double dose. If you miss a dose you should take it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule.

Overdose

If you overdose Bimatoprost and you don't feel good you should visit your doctor or health care provider immediately.
